Absence makes the heart grow fonder - 28th August 2020
The past 6 months have forced every one of us to assess what’s important from a new perspective. Almost immediately the distractions that seemed so important, were merely pedestrian.
When the coronavirus pandemic first hit, and the rug was whipped from beneath our spikes, sport was very much placed in the category of things we can live without.
That being said, after a 12 week delay to the start of the season, the return of cricket to Notton is a reassuring taste of normality, showing us all how important it is to both mind and body, the get back on the field.
Fast-forward 5 weeks and both teams have had their fair share of ups and downs, rain and shine, wins and loses. With a shortened season and both teams sitting mid table, they are only a few good results away from promotion.
The club’s positive start to the season is on one hand down to the commendable enthusiasm of each and every player, but also a surge of new faces, old and young, novice and experienced, who are all welcome in our growing sporting family.
And it’s not just enthusiasm on the pitch that’s made for such a great start to the season – our recent friendly game against the England Cricket Association for the Deaf raised awareness for their great cause as well as raising almost £750 of vital funds shared equally between both teams.
Finally, as with many grassroots sports clubs we rely on the hard work of players raising funds as well as sporting grant schemes, but also the incredible generosity of our local community. With this in mind the club would like to extend a huge thank you to the village residents who donated a new heavy roller which is already making a game-changing difference.
Should anybody wish to get involved with the club on or off the pitch, training takes place on Wednesdsay nights from 6pm and we always look forward to welcoming new faces to the ground on a Saturday from 1pm.
Sporting regards,
